Terms of service

This is the agreement between your store and DeynBook. It covers what you pay, what we owe you, what you may and may not do with the messaging tools, and who is responsible when money is involved.

Plain English, but still a contract

We have kept the wording short and readable on purpose. It is still the agreement that governs your account, and it is not legal advice about your own business. Rules on credit, collections, and customer messaging differ between Minnesota, Ohio, Washington, Ontario, and everywhere else — have your own lawyer look at how your store extends credit.

The agreement

These terms are between DeynBook Inc. (Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States) and the business that opens the account — your store. By starting a trial, signing in, or paying an invoice, you agree to them on behalf of that business, and you confirm you are allowed to do so.

Our Privacy policy is part of this agreement. If we have signed a separate written order form or a multi-store contract with you, that document wins wherever the two disagree.

Accounts, staff, and eligibility

  • You must be at least 18 and operating a real business to open an account.
  • Every person who uses DeynBook gets their own sign-in. Shared passwords at the counter are how ledgers get changed by the wrong person, and how audit logs stop meaning anything.
  • You are responsible for what your staff do in the account, including balances they record, edit, or delete, and reminders they send.
  • Keep your contact details current. Notices about billing, security, and these terms go to the email on the account.
  • Tell us right away at hello@deynbook.com if you think someone has your password.

Trial, subscription, and cancellation

The 14-day trial

Every plan starts with 14 days free. No card is required to begin, and the trial includes moving the balances out of your paper book. When the trial ends, nothing is charged and nothing is sent until you choose a plan — your ledger simply waits, read-only, for 30 days.

Paying

  • Basic is $29.99 a month and Standard is $49.99 a month, per store. Paid yearly, the same plans work out to $24.99 and $41.99 a month — about 16% less.
  • Scale is priced per location and set out in a written quote.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically — monthly on the day you started, yearly on the anniversary — until you cancel.
  • Prices are in US dollars and exclude any sales tax, GST, or HST we are required to collect.
  • If a payment fails we retry for 10 days and email you. After that the account goes read-only. Nothing is deleted, and no reminders go out while it is read-only.

Cancelling

Cancel any time from Settings → Billing, or ask us and we will do it. Monthly plans run to the end of the period you already paid for. On a yearly plan we refund the unused whole months. Export your data before or during the 30 days after cancellation — the Privacy policy explains what happens after that.

If we raise prices, we will email you at least 30 days before it applies to your account, and it will never apply mid-term on a yearly plan.

Acceptable use

DeynBook is for running your store. It is not for these things:

  • Sending marketing, promotions, political messages, or anything other than account and payment reminders through the messaging tools.
  • Recording debts for people who never agreed to them, or contacting anyone who is not your own customer.
  • Threatening, shaming, or harassing anyone, in any language, through any part of the product.
  • Reselling DeynBook, sharing one account across unrelated businesses, or using it as a consumer lending or credit-reporting platform.
  • Uploading someone else’s customer list, or recording government ID numbers, immigration status, or health information.
  • Attacking the service — scraping, probing, reverse engineering, breaking rate limits, or bypassing access controls.

If a message you send through DeynBook would embarrass your customer at the counter, do not send it. We suspend the messaging tools for accounts that use them to pressure people.

Your data, and the licence you give us

Your ledger belongs to you. Customer names, balances, payments, inventory, and reports stay yours, and nothing in this agreement transfers ownership of them to us.

You give us a limited, non-exclusive licence to host, copy, transmit, back up, and display that data strictly to run the service for you — including sending the reminders you schedule and producing your warbixin. The licence ends when you delete the data or close the account. We do not use your ledger to advertise, to build products for anyone else, or to train models.

You confirm that you have the right to enter the information you enter, and that it is accurate. DeynBook shows what you record. It cannot know that a balance is wrong.

Messaging, consent, and collecting a debt

This section matters more than the rest

DeynBook sends the message, but your store is the sender. The responsibility for who is contacted, and how, is yours.
  1. You confirm you have permission to contact each customer at the number you entered — normally the number they gave you when you opened their account, for the purpose of managing that account.
  2. You will honour every opt-out. A reply of STOP or JOOJI unsubscribes a customer automatically, and you agree not to re-add someone who has opted out unless they ask you to.
  3. You will follow the rules where your store operates. In the United States that includes the TCPA and state debt-collection rules; in Canada, CASL and provincial collection rules. Those rules cover when you may call, how often, and what you may say.
  4. You will not contact a customer’s family, employer, or neighbours about their debt, and you will not use DeynBook to disclose a balance to anyone other than the customer.
  5. You are responsible for the content of any message template you write. Our Somali and English defaults are written to be polite; edits are on you.
  6. Carriers may filter, delay, or refuse messages. We cannot guarantee delivery, and delivery is not proof that a message was read.

If a complaint, a carrier block, or a regulator reaches us about messages sent from your account, we may pause your messaging while we look into it, and we will tell you why.

Availability and support

  • We aim for 99.9% monthly uptime, measured outside planned maintenance. Maintenance is announced at least 48 hours ahead and scheduled overnight in US Central time.
  • Email support is on every plan. Phone support in Somali and English comes with Standard and Scale, Mon–Sat 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM CT, Sunday 12:00 – 6:00 PM CT.
  • Scale accounts get a named contact and priority response.
  • We may change or retire features. If something you rely on is going away, we give you at least 60 days’ notice and a way to export what it held.

If we miss 99.9% in a month and it affected you, tell us within 30 days and we will credit your next invoice for the affected days. That credit is the remedy for downtime.

No financial, tax, or legal advice

DeynBook is a record-keeping tool. It is not a lender, a bank, a money transmitter, a collection agency, a credit bureau, or an accountant — and it is not a substitute for any of them.

Nothing in the app or on this website is financial, tax, or legal advice. Reports, aging charts, and cash-flow figures are summaries of what you entered, offered to help you think. They are not audited, they are not a valuation of your business, and they should not be filed as-is with any tax authority.

The decision to extend credit to a customer is yours alone, and so is the risk that it is not repaid. Whether your credit arrangements are lawful where you operate — including any interest, fee, or late charge — is a question for your own lawyer and accountant, not for us.

Suspension and termination

You can close your account whenever you like. We can suspend or close an account if an invoice goes unpaid for 30 days, if the acceptable-use or messaging rules are broken, or if keeping it open would put us or your customers at legal risk.

Except in a serious case — fraud, or messaging that harms people — we will warn you first and give you a chance to fix it. However an account ends, you keep 30 days of export access. We do not hold a ledger hostage over a billing dispute.

Limitation of liability

The service is provided as is. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will collect any particular amount of money. Figures such as “six in ten reminded balances paid within two days” describe what stores have told us they see. They are not a promise about yours.

To the extent the law allows, DeynBook is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential losses, for lost profits or goodwill, or for a debt a customer does not pay. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.

Nothing here limits liability for fraud, for wilful misconduct, or for anything that cannot be limited by law. Some states do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

Changes to these terms

We update these terms as the product changes. The date at the top always shows the current version. For material changes we email account owners at least 30 days ahead; if you keep using DeynBook after that date, the new terms apply. If you would rather not accept them, cancel before they take effect and we will refund the unused part of your term.

Governing law

This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute goes to the state or federal courts located in Hennepin County, Minnesota, and both sides consent to that jurisdiction.

Before filing anything, please email us. Nearly every disagreement we have had with a store was settled by a phone call in the language the owner prefers.
